Speaker 1:

Today, we're diving into a fascinating revelation from the book Breath the New Science of a Lost Art by James Nester. Did you know that our breathing something we do without even thinking has undergone significant changes throughout human evolution? According to Nester's research, our breathing capacity has evolved over time, but not necessarily for the better. Scientists have uncovered a startling truth. Our ability to breathe has taken a hit, and it started 800,000 years ago, when we began processing food and fire. Imagine that the innovation of cooking food made food more digestible, which allowed us to preserve energy. But this had other consequences Our brain grew, and when our brain grew, it changed the bone structure of our face. That's right. Our breathing got worse. In fact, nestor suggests that a whopping 90% of us and yes, that includes very likely you and me and almost everyone you know are breathing incorrectly.

Speaker 1:

But what does breathing incorrectly mean and why does it matter? Well, according to the research, this improper way of breathing is more than just a harmless habit. It's a potential culprit in a laundry list of chronic diseases yes, you heard that right chronic diseases. Think about it how we breathe, a seemingly automatic and involuntary action, could contribute to health issues. It's both alarming and eye-opening.

Speaker 1:

So what's the takeaway from this revelation? Well, it's not just about the air we breathe that's important, but it's also how we breathe. Now I don't want to leave you hanging. The good news is that understanding this can be a powerful tool in reclaiming our health. It is an invitation to pay attention to our breath, relearn how to breathe optimally and mitigate the risk associated with improper breathing. So I want to hear from you as we wrap up this brief but mind-blowing insight have you ever considered how you breathe as a factor in your health? Are you aware of your breathing patterns? Please share your thoughts with us on social media or email us, and your feedback might shape the future deep dive into the world of breathing and wellness. We did it. Thank you for joining me on the first Did you Know? Segment of the Wellness Inspired Podcast. Until next time, breathe consciously, live well and stay inspired on your wellness journey.
