Hi Wellness Warriors. Welcome back to another episode of the Wellness Insp inspired podcast, a place where you can find inspiration, motivation and empowerment in the pursuit of a wellness lifestyle. I'm your host, sherry Davidson. I'm a wellness coach, acupuncturist, trail runner and former interior designer in Houston, texas, and I am deeply passionate about health and wellbeing. And, as always, I'm here with my co-host, finn. And if you're new to the podcast, finn is my terrier mix, rescue dog, trail runner and loyal companion. He is also a therapy dog and greeter at element five, acupuncture and wellness.
Speaker 1:And it's time for another did you know? Episode, a segment dedicated to exploring intriguing facts, discoveries, curiosities and wellness tips that make a big difference in your day-to-day life. And today we're going to talk about stress relief hacks that fit right into your hectic schedule and I know we all have busy lives. So if life is coming at you fast and you're looking for quick solutions, this episode is for you. But before we jump in, I have to talk about the Wellness River Cruise. I can't believe it is six months away. If you've been tuning into this podcast over the past year, you've likely caught wind of this Wellness River Cruise. Well, friends, it's here. It's six months away, so mark your calendars for April, the 20th 2025, as we set sail on an unforgettable seven night cruise along the Danube River. We'll traverse the picturesque landscape of Austria, Germany, hungary and Slovakia, and I am super excited about this. Prepare for many active sightseeing adventures, including invigorating hikes, scenic bike rides and even a few brisk runs. Maybe, alongside these activities, indulge in the serenity of yoga sessions, engage in enlightening wellness discussions and savor the flavors of locally sourced cuisine. Excitement is already brewing, as several enthusiasts have secured their spots. For those intrigued, I will put the link in the show notes. And if you're certain, this wellness river cruise is calling your name, please waste no time in securing your place on board.
Speaker 1:Riverboat cruises fill up rapidly. That's why my mistake, but we had to shift the dates from this year to next year, so don't think about it too long. Seize the opportunity while you can. And if you're looking for more information in episode 63 and 64, a journey of wellness and wonder on the Dan Noob with Ammo Waterways, I had the pleasure of having Laurie she is a representative from Ammo Waterways and Tammy, my friend. She is a seasoned travel concierge. They came onto the podcast and we got to discuss the full river cruise experience, so that was super cool. So feel free to check those episodes out for more information. Again, this all has to happen quickly. The cruise is around the corner, it's April of next year and there are only 129 cabins on the boat. They sell out quickly, so if you're interested, put your deposit down. It's not a lot to hold your spot, okay.
Speaker 1:Well, let's get started. Did you know the 478 breathing technique can instantly calm you? We all have those moments where stress sneaks in and suddenly your brain starts doing a hundred things at once. Did you know that controlling your breath can instantly calm you down, even in the middle of your busiest day? And it doesn't take long Seriously, it takes less than one minute and this technique is called the 4-7-8 breathing technique.
Speaker 1:You can also do the 4 four, four box breathing technique here. Both techniques are incredibly effective to relieve stress. But the difference is, if you're looking for an easy, quick, simple reset, the four, four, four is perfect. If you want a deeper, more calming experience, I would go for the four, seven, eight, so okay. So this is how it works. You're going to inhale through your nose for four seconds and you want to make sure that you're breathing all the way into your diaphragm and it's like a wave. The breath is like a wave. Breathe into your diaphragm and you feel this wave going up to your chest right. So you want to do that for four seconds and then you want to hold that breath for seven seconds. This is where it starts to get hard and then, after the seven seconds, you then exhale slowly through your mouth for eight seconds. Yeah, this breathing technique takes a little bit more focus to do, but it is incredibly powerful. Doing this a few times I mean it's quick Do it a few times and you'll feel your stress levels drop like magic. It is the perfect reset between meetings or anytime you need a quick mental break. I've used it plenty of times when I'm feeling overwhelmed. So I highly encourage you to try it, because it's super fast. You can do it anywhere maybe not while driving, but you can almost do it anywhere. So you just need to take a moment and breathe.
Speaker 1:Okay, let's move on to the next one. Did you know a five-minute desk stretch can boost your mood? It is true, we spend so much time sitting hunched over at our computers that our bodies start to lock up. I had this experience over the weekend. I drove to San Antonio and it's about a three and a half to four hour drive and by the end I could just feel my whole body just locking up. And it only takes a few minutes to roll your shoulders, stretch your arms overhead and gently tilt your head side to side. This can release all of that tension and, the best part, you feel more focused and energized, ready to take on whatever comes next. It's like hitting the refresh button for your body and your mind. I did this when I got out to go to the restroom and get gas once. I just took a little time to move, you know, move my body a little bit and stretch my neck and my back and I just. It really is energizing.
Speaker 1:Okay, this one is for all my busy people who think mindfulness is some big time consuming ritual. Do you know you only need 60 seconds to practice mindfulness? Yep, that's just one minute. And here's what you do you close your eyes, find a nice spot, close your eyes, take a few deep breaths and focus on the sensations around you or within you. What do you feel? What do you hear? Just take a moment to get in the present can help you feel more grounded, even when everything around you is chaotic. Sometimes it's all you have. You don't need to carve out a whole hour. Sometimes one minute is all you need to clear your head.
Speaker 1:I am a huge advocate for this. I spend more time just taking moments throughout my day. Then I actually do a formal practice. I still enjoy the formal practices, but sometimes mine are no longer than 10 minutes, 10 or 15 minutes. You don't need anything more than that, so you don't have to have this. You know hour two hour ritual where you're sitting down and meditating. You can take mindful moments throughout the day and I think they are more beneficial to you. The important thing is that you do it and you do it consistently, and I guarantee you you will see results.
Speaker 1:Okay, last one for today. Did you know that stepping away from your situation for a quick five minute walk can reboot your brain, especially if it's outside? Really, when you walk, it boosts your circulation and clears your mind, helping you come back to your situation with a fresh perspective. When I'm feeling overwhelmed or I'm starting to lose my focus at work, I grab Finn and we go for a walk in Rice Village, and I just cannot speak enough about this and how beneficial it is, you know. It's like a reset button for your brain and it doesn't take much time at all. Plus, you get the added benefit of moving your body and Mother Nature. All right, my wellness warrior friends. That is a wrap on today's did you know? Segment. These tips are super easy to fit into your day, so, no matter how packed your schedule is, next time you're feeling overwhelmed, try one of these quick stress relievers. They really work, I promise. And remember even small changes can lead to big shifts in your wellbeing. Until next time, take a deep breath, stretch it out and keep moving forward.
