Speaker 1:

Hi Wellness Warriors, Happy New Year and welcome back to another episode of the wellness inspired podcast, a place where you can find inspiration, motivation and empowerment in the pursuit of a wellness lifestyle. I'm your host, sherry Davidson. I'm a wellness coach, acupuncturist, trail runner and former interior designer in Houston, texas, and I am deeply passionate about health and wellbeing. And, as always, I'm here with my co-host, finn, and if you're new to the podcast, finn is my Terrier, mix Rescue Dog, trail runner and loyal companion. He is also a therapy dog and greeter at Element 5, acupuncture and Wellness.

Speaker 1:

Today we are diving into something that has been on my mind a lot lately, especially with the new year, and it is the adventure of stepping outside your comfort zone and saying yes to the things that stretch you. I've been feeling that buzz of excitement that comes with a fresh start, and new year's is my favorite holiday and 2025 already feels like it's shaping up to be a year full of possibilities. You know that feeling when you're at the edge of something new, a little nervous but also kind of thrilled. That's the energy I'm leaning into this year, so I thought it would be a great topic for the first episode of 2025. But before we jump in. For all those avid listeners who've tuned into the podcast over the past year. You've likely caught wind of the Wellness River Cruise. Well, friends, the moment has arrived. Mark your calendars for April 20th 2025, as we set sail on an unforgettable seven-night cruise along the Danube River. We will traverse the picturesque landscape of Austria, Germany, hungary and Slovakia. Prepare for many active sightseeing adventures, including invigorating hikes, scenic bike rides and maybe maybe a few brisk runs Alongside these activities. Indulge in the serenity of yoga sessions, engage in enlightening wellness discussions and savor the flavors of locally sourced cuisine. Excitement is already brewing, as several enthusiasts have secured their spots. For those intrigued, I'll put the links in the show notes and, if you want to learn more, in episodes 63 and 64, a journey of wellness and wonder on the Danube with Ammo Waterways. I had the pleasure of having Laurie, a representative from Ammo Waterways, and Tammy, my friend and a seasoned travel concierge, on the podcast to discuss the full river cruise experience. So feel free to check out those episodes for more information. And this all has to happen quickly. The cruise is around the corner and there are only 129 cabins on the boat. They sell out quickly, so if you're interested, put your deposit down. It's not a lot to hold your spot. Okay, let's get started.

Speaker 1:

Let's talk about comfort zones. You've probably heard one say do one thing a day that scares you, and while that might sound a little extreme, there is some solid science behind it. Psychologists call this the comfort zone theory. So basically, our brains are wired to keep us safe and comfortable, which is great, except when it keeps us from growing. Growth happens right at the edge of comfort, where things feel challenging but not overwhelming. It is the stretch zone, where we build our confidence, learn new skills and start to realize just how much we're capable of and, trust me, I have been living in that zone a lot throughout my life.

Speaker 1:

In October, I joined a mastermind group to stretch and grow professionally and personally. I applied for this group in October and I had my first call today and this is January the 7th, and I just realized how much I am stretching myself this year. I was so excited and super nervous on the first call. However, I am overwhelmed with eagerness to know where I am today and where I will be next year. What is coming up for me in 2025? Well, there's a lot I'm excited about, but I'm also giving myself permission to let things unfold, naturally, so I don't wanna give too much detail here, but I am planning some incredible experiences, things like an Urban Wellness Day, online classes and, of course, the Wellness River Cruise. That's already in action, but I'm excited to evolve that piece Also. I'm exploring new ways to grow wellness inspired and I know that my vision for it is going to grow and evolve as a year progresses. So don't be surprised if you start seeing some changes and shifts here. And as far as the other experiences I mentioned, I will share more with you about them as they roll out.

Speaker 1:

On a personal level, I plan to keep traveling and trail running. Another 100 mile trail race might be on the horizon. I'm not sure yet. My foot is still not a hundred percent, but I am running and it is a little bit better, but I still have some numbness and a little bit of pain. It is what it is right now and that's what it is Um, but yeah. So I am definitely thinking about uh training for another. Another one and you know many people think I'm crazy for even thinking about attempting to run a hundred mile race, but there are so many reasons to do it.

Speaker 1:

For me, it's not just about crossing the finish line. It's about who I become in the process, and that same philosophy applies to all areas of my life. Stepping into the unknown is exciting because I have a vision that pulls me forward, and sure, it can feel scary at times, but the vision always wins over the fear. So here's what I've learned it's not about the goal itself. It's about the person you become on the way to reaching it. The growth, the grit, the moments when you surprise yourself that's the real reward and, honestly, that's why I keep chasing these adventures.

Speaker 1:

Now I want to invite you to think about what adventure looks like for you. Maybe it's finally signing up for that class you've been eyeing, starting a new wellness habit, or even just making more space for rest. Whatever it is, let 2025 be the year you step outside your comfort zone and say yes to growth, say yes to the adventures in your life. Okay, well, that's it. We're going to wrap up this new year episode. Uh, and I just want to recap by saying you know, growth happens when we step outside, into new challenges and break free from the ordinary, and by embracing an adventurous mindset in our wellness goals, we can unlock new possibilities and deeper fulfillment. If this resonates with you, I would love to know how are you leaning into growth this year? Let's keep the conversation going, because the best adventures are the ones we grow through together. What's the one thing you're saying yes to in 2025? Send me a message. I'm all about cheering each other on as we take bold steps to move toward meaningful growth.
