Sheri Davidson, L.Ac.:

Hello, wellness adventurist. Welcome back to another episode of the wellness inspired podcast, a place where you can find inspiration, motivation and empowerment in the pursuit of a wellness lifestyle. I'm your host, sherry Davidson. I'm a wellness coach, acupuncturist, trail runner and former interior designer in Houston, texas, and I am deeply passionate about health and wellbeing, but what I'm most passionate about is exploring how to turn wellness inspiration into a habit that actually sticks. On this podcast, I share real stories, practical tools and honest conversations with other wellness thinkers so we can all learn, adapt and find what really works in real life. And, as always, I'm here with my co-host, finn. And if you're new to the podcast, finn is my terrier mix, rescue dog, trail runner and loyal companion. He is also a therapy dog and greeter at Element 5 Acupuncture and Wellness, and today I'm super excited because we're diving into something that's been showing up a lot in conversations with clients, friends and, honestly, in my own life too.

Sheri Davidson, L.Ac.:

There are so many wellness practices, tools and trends out there, from infrared saunas to somatic breath work to journaling under a full moon. It can feel like we're always discovering something new to try, but here's the thing when we approach wellness with a try-it-all mindset, we can end up feeling scattered and burned out instead of nourished. So today I want to take the opportunity to talk about how to explore wellness with curiosity, not pressure, because real, sustainable wellness doesn't come from chasing the next big thing. It comes from staying open, playful and honest with yourself and what actually supports you. Okay, I'm super excited. So let's Ever feel like you're doing all the things the supplements, the meditations, the podcast and the workouts and still wondering why isn't it working? Well, you're not alone. So many of my patients and clients come to me exhausted, not from a lack of effort no, no, no but from trying too hard to get wellness right. They've read books, joined programs, tried retreats, downloaded apps, and somehow they're still stuck. What if the answer isn't doing more, but doing less with more curiosity? And that's what we're going to talk about today. So let's just get right to the problem and let's talk about the overwhelm.

Sheri Davidson, L.Ac.:

When we scroll through social media or talk to our wellness minded friends, there's always a new practice to try, a new product to buy, a new modality to explore. And it's not that those things are bad Some of them are incredible but when we start chasing them all at once, it gets exhausting. We start to feel like we have to do everything to feel good, like if we're not cold, plunging, dry brushing, meditating, stretching, supplementing and manifesting before breakfast, we're falling behind Sound familiar. So what I have learned, and I'm still learning, is that more isn't always better. What matters more than the modality itself is the intention and energy we bring to it. Are we trying it because we're curious or because we feel like we should? So I want to share a personal story with you. So I just want to give you a recent example.

Sheri Davidson, L.Ac.:

I went to an event it wasn't too long ago and I didn't know ahead of time but at the end of each day there was a sound bath session and I was familiar with the concept, but I had never actually experienced one and, honestly, I had no expectations. I was there for the event but I thought why not? Why not drop into surrender and see what it's all about? I didn't go in thinking it would change my life or become a weekly ritual. I just showed up with curiosity, open and attached, and wondering how is this going to go? How might I feel when I'm done? And you know what? It was beautiful. It was relaxing in a way that I didn't expect. It gave me a deep sense of stillness, the kind that doesn't shout but gently settles in.

Sheri Davidson, L.Ac.:

And here's the part that really surprised me. I went into the experience with a question in my heart. I had a really big decision to make, really, really big one, that I was terrified to make, but I wanted to make it, and I was looking for answers. And during the sound bath I had a vision of going on a great adventure. I was standing at the edge of infinite possibilities. There would be risk, of course, and the familiar would dissolve into the unfamiliar, but there would also be excitement, wonder and growth. And that's when I realized I wasn't just relaxing. I was remembering what adventure feels like and how much adventure excites me, and I realized in that moment how important adventure was in my life. Not only did I realize how important adventure was in my life, but I realized that, how powerful an adventurous mindset can be.

Sheri Davidson, L.Ac.:

If an adventurous mindset enabled me to say yes to the scary decision that I had to make, if it made me say yes, that yes, I was going to be faced with uncertainty, you know, because you never know what's coming next. But that's also part of what makes it alive. If I got curious like what if? What if I did do this, what if it did turn out this way? And also to understand that there will be challenge Not everything will be smooth, but that's where growth sneaks in and presence. You have to be mindful and present because you have to be awake to navigate the adventure, because if you don't, you could make one wrong step and fall off the mountain. So presence is so important. And then transformation, not because you set out to change, but because the experience shifts you and you're never the same. That moment.

Sheri Davidson, L.Ac.:

The sound bath was about the bowls, the breath and the vibration, but not just for their surface effect, right, it was about how those elements created space for something deeper to rise, a different kind of knowing, a quieter kind of clarity. Not only did I make a huge business decision, I also knew that this adventurous mindset had to be the backbone of Wellness. Inspired In my curiosity and practice story, you might be wondering if I'm going to become, or did I become, a sound bath regular. Not yet, and this was in October, so I haven't been to a sound bath session here, but I did find a place in Houston. It's on my list. I do think about it. It pops up every once in a while because I had such a great experience, but I haven't taken any action to do that, and sometimes I think that maybe just in that moment it's what I needed at that time. Um, but I'm sure I will have another experience.

Sheri Davidson, L.Ac.:

Uh, because the experience did open something up, a pause, a vision, a connection back to myself, and that, to me, is at the heart of curiosity. It lets us explore without attachment. It invites us to taste something new without needing to adopt it as a lifestyle or identity. It keeps wellness from being a rigid checklist and brings it back to what it was meant to be Discovery, connection and the courage to try, even if we don't know where it will lead. A try, even if we don't know where it will lead.

Sheri Davidson, L.Ac.:

That sound bath didn't just give me stillness, it shifted something. It reminded me that presence is often more powerful than productivity, and since then I've been approaching new wellness practices with a little more space, a little more breath. I'm less interested in stacking things and more interested in experiencing them, not to become an expert, just to stay curious. So how do we practice curiosity in a way that feels grounded, not overwhelming? Here are a few ways I try to keep things in check. Number one start with intention. Before I try something new, I pause and ask myself why am I drawn to this? What am I hoping to feel or learn? Sometimes that moment of reflection helps me realize am I acting from pressure and not presence, and that alone can shift everything. Other times, it helps me anchor into my why, so I can explore the practice with more clarity and less noise.

Sheri Davidson, L.Ac.:

When I went into the sound bath, I had no expectations, but I did set an intention, because I am familiar with sound baths and it's a meditative experience and I'm very familiar with meditative practices. And I went into it with a, with the intent of of it being a contemplative meditation, because I had this huge decision I was trying to make and I was looking for answers. I was looking to trust my intuition, to see what messages I would get. So that's how you, uh, set an intention Um, what do you want to get out of this? What is this? What do you want to get out of this? What do you want to get out of this new experience that you're about to have?

Sheri Davidson, L.Ac.:

Okay, number two try one thing at a time. I'll be honest. This one is hard for me. When I get excited about a new idea or practice, I want to do all the things right away. That's the Aries in me. But I've learned, sometimes the hard way, that layering too much at once makes it impossible to tell what's actually helping. Now I jot down all ideas I'm curious about in a notebook or on my phone I use the notes app. It's almost like a wellness to try list. That way I don't lose the spark of excitement, but I also give each new thing the space it deserves. So, yes, so the sound bath that I found here in Houston, the sound bath studio, is on my list to try and I will. I will make it there.

Sheri Davidson, L.Ac.:

Okay, number three stay in observation mode. When I try something new, I try to be the observer, not the fixer. I'll ask how did this make me feel and what did I notice in my body, my mood, my energy? That simple shift from trying to get it right to just noticing makes things feel a lot lighter. Remember, there is no place for perfection here. Okay, number four release the need to stick with it.

Sheri Davidson, L.Ac.:

This was a big one for me. I used to think that if I didn't turn a new practice into a habit, I'd fail. Now I know trying and letting go can be just as valuable as sticking with something. Not everything is meant to stay. Some practices serve you in a season and then fade, and that's okay. Okay, number five.

Sheri Davidson, L.Ac.:

The last one is to reflect, reflect, reflect. Whether it's a journal entry or just a moment of stillness while walking Finn, I try to check in. Did this nourish me? Do I want more of it, or was once enough? Reflections help me make decisions from a place of wisdom instead of FOMO. We all know the fear of missing out. I am, my Aries way, very much like that, but reflection brings me back to my path and not someone else's checklist. Okay, again, there is no failure, just information about yourself. We're going to wrap it up here. I'm going to end it with a summary thought that today's reminder is simple Wellness doesn't have to be all or nothing.

Sheri Davidson, L.Ac.:

You don't have to try everything to feel like you're doing it right. When you approach wellness with curiosity, not urgency, it becomes something that's fun, sustainable and uniquely yours. Okay, well, I'd love to hear what you're exploring right now. What's one thing you're curious about? Not because you feel like you should, but because you just want to see what it's like. Okay, so DM me, tag me or send me a voice note. I'd love to hear your stories and sneak peek. I'll be chatting with different people in the wellness world to explore what they're offering, what's working and what's not, and how we can all stay curious without losing ourself in the process. Real talk, no hype. I've interviewed people in the past and I kind of haven't been doing it as much lately and I really want to get back into it. And, yeah, just be curious, explore and discover what's out there in hopes for transformation. Right? So until next time, stay curious, stay inspired and keep exploring your way toward a healthier, more adventurous life.
