Sheri Davidson:

Hello, wellness adventurist, welcome back to another episode of the Wellness Inspired Podcast, a place where we explore health as an adventure messy, beautiful and totally worth it. I'm your host, sherry Davidson. I'm a wellness coach, trail runner and former interior designer in Houston, texas, and I am deeply passionate about health and wellbeing. And, as always, I'm here with my co-host, finn. And if you're new to the podcast, finn is my terrier mix, rescue dog, trail runner and loyal companion. He is also a therapy dog and greeter at Element 5 Acupuncture and Wellness. And today we're bringing you a little segment I like to call Did you Know, a segment where we explore surprising research-backed insights and connect the dots between everyday habits and deeper wellness. Think of it as a spark for your curiosity, a chance to learn something new, reframe what you thought you knew or maybe shift the way you show up for yourself today. No fluff, just grounded facts with a little inspiration. All right, let's jump in. Did you know?

Sheri Davidson:

Motivation is a mood and not a strategy. Let that sink in for a second. We tend to treat motivation like it's the magic ingredient for change, like if we just feel it hard enough, we'll finally start that workout routine, eat more vegetables or get to bed on time. But here's the truth Motivation is flaky. It's like that friend who hypes you up for a weekend hike and then cancels the morning of because it's too cloudy. It feels exciting until it doesn't, and that's because motivation is an emotion. It comes and goes. It's affected by your sleep, your hormones, your calendar, your Instagram feed and the phase of the moon, if you're into that. So if we're building our wellness habits on motivation alone, we're building on sand.

Sheri Davidson:

What actually works, especially when life gets messy, is structure, simple, clear, flexible structure. And what does that look like? Well, it might look like setting out your walking shoes before bed so your morning brain doesn't have to think. Scheduling a 10 minute stretch after your lunch break every Thursday, putting a sticky note on your water bottle that says you get grumpy when you're dry. This is how habits stick, not because you're feeling it, but because you made it easier to show up without the drama. And when your structure supports you, guess what sneaks back in Motivation. It returns, not because you waited for it, but because you moved without it. So here's your wellness spark for today. Where are you relying on motivation when what you really need is a little structure? Think small, think doable, think repeatable. And if this made you nod or laugh, share it with a friend who is still waiting for the perfect Monday to start. Until next time, keep exploring, keep discovering and keep moving towards a healthier, more adventurous life.
